Bryan Nelson P.A. supports Festival South by helping to bring innovative film expo to Hattiesburg

FSFX: Celebrating Mississippi’s Literacy Legacy in Film

Presented in partnership with Clyde Bryant State Farm Agency, Inc.

The Grand 18 Hattiesburg

For two weeks in June, every corner of Hattiesburg is filled with music, art and rich culture thanks to Festival South, Mississippi’s only multi-week, multi-genre arts festival.

If you ask the attorneys of Bryan Nelson P.A., a longtime Hattiesburg law firm, the city is like this all the time.

The Bryan Nelson firm has been a longtime supporter of the arts and Hattiesburg culture. The firm has made a point to dedicate time and resources to making life more colorful for the city’s residents and guests, for generations to come.

Part of the firm culture at Bryan Nelson Attorneys is to serve Hattiesburg and the people and organizations that drive its economy.

The firm has been a longtime supporter of Festival South, and this year they are proud to support FSFX: Celebrating Mississippi’s Literacy Legacy in Film.

Through special screenings and a pop-up exhibit, FestivalSouth celebrates Mississippi's impressive literary legacy and the role Mississippi writers have played in the history of cinema.

The film series boasts films based on works of MS Writers or written directly by MS writers.

FSFX plans to screen A Streetcar Named Desire (Williams), The Big Sleep (Faulkner), Crimes of the Heart (Henley), My Dog Skip (Morris), As I Lay Dying (Faulkner), A Time to Kill (Grisham), and Trapped (Iles). The exhibit will feature brief biographies and highlights from the careers of Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Richard Wright, Willie Morris, John Grisham and Greg Iles

Mississippi has given rise to some incredible artistic talents: From Tennessee Williams to Elvis Presley and B.B. King to William Faulkner, Eudora Welty and Morgan Freeman, the very soil seems to teem with creative potential.

Bolstered by attractive tax rebates and similarly attractive scenery, Mississippi has recently seen an increased presence from the film production community, with major Hollywood projects like Get On Up to smaller indies that are quickly gaining an audience and grabbing headlines setting up shop and shooting in the Magnolia state. Mississippi’s “Hub” City, Hattiesburg, MS now has a premiere film festival to showcase the state’s burgeoning film industry.

For these reasons, Bryan Nelson P.A. has decided to invest in and support the film expo in its efforts bring the state’s talent to the big screen.

Festival South is important to Hattiesburg for many reasons. For Hattiesburg residents, it provides numerous opportunities for them to get out and see entertainment from artists and performers that they would otherwise not normally see. For Artists and Entertainers, it is an opportunity to showcase their talents. And for Hattiesburg businesses, it is an opportunity to sponsor and host events and capture new customers who are out enjoying Festival South.

The film expo will award prizes to the best films. Those prizes include:

  • Golden Magnolia Best Feature Award, $500 cash prize

  • Golden Magnolia Best Short, $250 cash prize

  • Audience Award, short or feature

  • Best Actor

  • Best Actress

  • Best Cinematography.

Awards will be announced at The Reel Big Movie concert and FSFX award on June 23.

The attorneys of Bryan Nelson urge everyone to grab their popcorn and meet them at The Grand Theater for the history-making event.
